Mama's Milk (Fenugreek Free) Breastfeeding Herbal Tea

  • $2000

This Naturopath formulated herbal blend contains nourishing herbs to support a plentiful milk supply, and bring calm to a windy or colicky baby.

The word galactagogue comes from the Greek meaning ‘milk promoting’ and is understood to be a substance that promotes lactation in humans and other animals. Galactagogues have a long history of use and are thought to work by increasing prolactin release. Prolactin is a hormone that gets released into the blood stream in response to the suckling stimulus on the nipple.

Contains: Alfalfa (Medicago sativa), Blessed Thistle (Cnicus benedictus), Caraway seeds (Carum carvi), Dill seeds (Anethum graveolens), Fennel seeds (Foeniculum vulgare), Goats Rue (Galega officinalis), Moringa leaf (Moringa oleifera), Nettle leaf (Urtica dioica)

For optimal effects, drink/sip regularly 3 - 5 cups throughout the day. Can be served warm or cold.

Breastfeeding supportive herbs are called galactagogues (ga-lact-a-gogs). They work by boosting the milk supply in the mother.

Suitable from Day 1 after the birth and for any breastfeeding mother, at any stage of her breastfeeding experience. This is great if a mum has had supply issues with a previous baby, or a mum that will be having - or has had - a period of separation from her baby after the birth e.g. caesarean birth, baby in special care nursery and/or mum in adult special care. Can also be used when a mum is needing to express on a regular basis e.g returning back to work. Also recommended for those mothers who feel their supply cannot quite keep up with their babies needs!

Why Fenugreek free?

Occasionally some mums have noticed that their baby is fussy and/or has green, watery stools when they are taking fenugreek, and that these symptoms go away they discontinue the fenugreek.

Fenugreek can cause some digestive in mums (upset stomach, diarrhoea), so it’s possible for it to cause tummy symptoms in baby too.

Another reason for these types of symptoms - and perhaps more likely than a reaction to the herb - is that mum's supply has increased due to the fenugreek and the symptoms are those of oversupply, where baby is getting too much foremilk. Fussiness, gas and green watery stools are classic symptoms of an overabundant milk supply. More info here.
