Clean Birth Kits - Birthing Kit Foundation Australia

Kristin Beckedahl/BodyWise BirthWise has been a supporter of  Birthing Kit Foundation Australia (BKFA) since 2015.
In 2019, The BodyWise BirthWise Store became a proud partner of Birthing Kit Foundation Australia (BKFA).
We live in a world where tragically 295,000 women die every year from causes related to pregnancy and childbirth, and close to 2.5 million babies die within their first month of life.‍
BKFA is dedicated to improving maternal and newborn health through the Clean Birth Kits program.
BKFA works with Australian and global partners to pack and supply Clean Birth Kits to pregnant women living in rural communities and low-resource settings around the world.
To date, 2.4 million Clean Birth Kits have been created and distributed to women in need. With the aid of accredited field partners in 20 countries these Kits are given to mothers through community outreach programs, supplied to health facilities for use by doctors, midwives and nurses or distributed to traditional birthing attendants.
They are designed to support hygienic practices and environments during childbirth in under-resourced settings.
Unfortunately, infection continues to contribute to the poor health outcomes of many mothers and newborns each day. The Clean Birth Kits are a simple, yet effective way to reduce the risk of infection and support safer childbirth for women in need.

Each item in the Clean Birth Kit works to reduce infections at high-risk moments of care during labour, birth and immediately post-birth for the mother, newborn and birth attendant. It contains 6 disposable components:

These Kits are assembled by volunteers in Australia. Since 1999, KIT International has partnered with over 100,000 Australians to create 2.4 million Clean Birth Kits!

Each Kit requires a donation of just $5.00.

This includes all materials in the Kit, costs associated with assembly, warehousing and freight of kits, plus the overall program management inclusive of monitoring and evaluation.

As of 5 June 2021 (World Environment Day), all of the Clean Birth Kits became environmentally friendly!

This means they still provide the same level of protection, but leave less of an environmental impact.

The plastic bag and the plastic sheet of each Clean Birth Kit are treated with an organic compound making them biodegradable in microbe rich environments, such as landfill.

A Clean Birth Kit is a powerful gift of hope and importantly, a gift that saves lives.

Please consider adding this simple, but extremely worthwhile donation to your order as you go through the Checkout page. Thank you!
