Did you know your birth is not officially over until your placenta has been birthed?

When the placenta comes away it needs to be considered 'complete', i.e whole, leaving nothing behind.

This 3rd stage of labour needs contractions (yes, just when you thought it was over).

Understandably most women want this to be over quickly and efficiently. Because, well, they have a baby to coo over and examine from head to toe.

Then there are the afterpains, also known as involution pains. These occur for the first few days, or even up to a week for some mums after the birth. They help the uterus contract back down to pre-pregnancy size and curb postnatal blood loss.

They are often worse during breastfeeding due to the release of the hormone oxytocin. This has a direct effect on the uterus, making it contract.

It's all a normal process and nature's grand plan. Herbs have been traditionally used to support these stages.

What is it?

It's a Naturopath (and Doula) formulated herbal tea blend.

It's for immediate use after the birth, to support a safe and complete 3rd stage of labour and for ongoing afterpains.

It helps to support effective contractions to birth the placenta with minimal bleeding, and helps ease afterpains. These are often uncomfortable whilst breastfeeding in those early days postpartum.

This tea is perfect for (but not exclusive to) homebirths and/or a planned natural (physiological) 3rd stage of labour.

The actions of the herbs in this blend are:

  • Uterine tonic
  • Anti-spasmodic (uterine)
  • Astringent (uterine)
  • Haemostatic (uterine)
