What's in it and why?

Ingredients: Aloe barbadensis (Aloe vera) Leaf Juice Gel, Hamamelis virginiana (Witch Hazel) Leaf Extract, Calendula officinalis (Calendula) Flower Extract, Equisetum arvense (Horsetail) Herb Extract, Cucumis sativus (Cucumber) Fruit Extract, D-alpha-Tocopherol (Vitamin E), Lavandula angustifolia (Lavender) Flower Oil, Pelargonium graveolens (Geranium) Flower Oil

Why?

Aloe vera:  The gel is soothing and anti-inflammatory, providing sweet relief to irritated and inflamed tissue. Boasts a cocktail of soothing constituents, perfect for mamas after birth.

Witch Hazel: This alcohol-free leaf extract yields an array of plant magic. It brings anti-inflammatory, astringent and antimicrobial properties to this blend. Great for swelling and bruising within those delicate tissues!

Cucumber: Another cooling, cleansing and healing plant for the skin. Comes with an impressive range of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and anti-inflammatory properties.

Calendula: One of the best healing herbs for any inflamed, damaged and/or bruised skin.

Horsetail: An excellent astringent herb with an affinity for the genito-urinary system. Helps reduce swelling and enhance healing due to its high silica content.

Vitamin E:  This natural antioxidant helped with skin repair, collagen production and provides deep moisturising to the skin.

Lavender and Geranium essential oils: For their heavenly combination of anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antimicrobial, healing and skin restorative properties!

Research:

Aloe vera and Calendula have been shown to considerably increase the speed of episiotomy wound healing.

The effect of Aloe Vera on post-episiotomy pain and wound healing showed significant differences in the healing scores. "Also 5 days after the intervention, the participants in the intervention group reported significantly lower pain scores in comparison with control group."

Horsetail "significantly decreased episiotomy pain intensity and promoted wound healing in comparison with placebo."

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

Ask a Question
  • Can this be placed directly onto grazes and small tears or to episiotomy?

It's designed to be used for spreading onto padsicles primarily. Whereas the Postnatal Herbal Spray has been designed for direct use onto these areas. They can also be used at the same time. Having said that, I would assume the Padsicle Gel would still provide some relief if a small amount is applied directly given its constituents.
