Donation at Checkout for a Clean Birth Kit - Kit International
The BodyWise BirthWise Store is a proud partner of KIT International - previously known as Birthing Kit Foundation Australia (BKFA).
KIT international is a social enterprise dedicated to creating a transformed world for women and girls.
They address gender inequality and injustice by creating opportunities in health, education and livelihoods for women and girls.
We live in a world where tragically 295,000 women die every year from causes related to pregnancy and childbirth, and close to 2.5 million babies die within their first month of life.
One of the livelihood initiatives is aimed at improving maternal and newborn health through the Clean Birth Kits program.
KIT International works with Australian and global partners to pack and supply Clean Birth Kits to pregnant women living in rural communities and low-resource settings around the world.
To date, 2.2 million Clean Birth Kits have been distributed to women in need. With the aid of accredited field partners in 20 countries these Kits are given to mothers through community outreach programs, supplied to health facilities for use by doctors, midwives and nurses or distributed to traditional birthing attendants.
They are designed to support hygienic practices and environments during childbirth in under-resourced settings.
Unfortunately, infection continues to contribute to the poor health outcomes of many mothers and newborns each day. The Clean Birth Kits are a simple, yet effective way to reduce the risk of infection and support safer childbirth for women in need.
Each item in the Clean Birth Kit works to reduce infections at high-risk moments of care during labour, birth and immediately post-birth for the mother, newborn and birth attendant. It contains 6 disposable components:
These Kits are assembled by volunteers in Australia. Since 1999, KIT International has partnered with over 100,000 Australians to create 2 million Clean Birth Kits!
Each Kit requires a donation of $3.00*.
This includes all materials in the Kit, costs associated with assembly, warehousing and freight of kits, plus the overall program management inclusive of monitoring and evaluation.
A Clean Birth Kit is a powerful gift of hope and importantly, a gift that saves lives.
(*As of mid 2019, the cost of the Kit increased to $5.00. However, I'm keeping the donation cost at $3.00 for customers and I'll happily contribute the extra $2.)
Please consider adding this simple, but extremely worthwhile donation to your order as you go through the Checkout page. Thank you!
